Who is your favorite saint and why?
St. Damien of Molokai because he worked extremely hard for God and for the people he was ministering to, and served them even knowing he would one day contract leprosy. He gave up his homeland and never saw his family again, but still wrote letters to them every night.
When did you first started thinking about being a priest? What made you move forward to pursue this vocation?
I first started thinking about becoming a priest when I was 18. It was at a youth conference and I’d just gone to confession for the first time and really thought that I’d felt God for the first time. They asked all the young men who were considering the priesthood to come down and receive a blessing, and for some reason I wanted to go get that blessing! I’d NEVER thought of it before, I didn’t even know that it was an option! I started to move towards pursuing this vocation because it had been six years since that conference, and a good friend pointed out that if I’m still thinking about it six years later, I should probably pursue this.
What do you look forward to most about being a priest?
Being able to help people find out how much God loves them through the sacrament of Confession.
What advice would you give to other guys who are discerning the priesthood?
I would advise a young man to go talk to priests about it, and begin to ask God the question, “What do YOU want for my life?”
